The speech team brought home 13 medals out of 18 events (including four golds) and was excited to earn  the RUNNER-UP TROPHY at the NENAC tournament in Crofton on Saturday.   NENAC champions were Michelle Sauser in entertainment, Sarah Meuret in persuasive, Kelsey Bonta in informative, and Cherise Friedrich in humorous prose.

Those earning 2nd place silver medals include Heidi Orona in poetry, the duet team of Cherise and Shelby Wattier, and the OID team of Michelle, Sarah, Kelsey, and Zach Masat.  Cody Mosel earned 3rd place in entertainment, as did Britton Hamm in his humorous poetry, and  Stephanie Westerhaus in extemporaneous speaking.    Shelby Wattier placed 5th in humorous prose, and so did the OID squad of Sara Christiansen, Brittany White, Heidi Orona, Michael Moeller, and Cody Mosel.   Briana Hamm brought home a 6th place medal in Persuasive speaking.

“Our kids benefited from an intense week of practice and made some significant improvements that paid off for them.   I am so thrilled with the progress they’ve made.  They are a motivated, hard-working bunch who really wants to succeed, which makes it such fun for us to work with them,” said Mrs. Schindler.

Crofton--a very talented team-- took home the NENAC championship trophy, edging out Plainview by 7 points.    The final tally was Crofton, 132 points; Plainview 125 points, followed by Laurel-Concord with 72 points.  The next meet will be Districts on Monday, March 8th at Creighton.

That meet starts at noon, and the public is invited (encouraged!) to attend.  Other schools competing that day include Creighton, Hartington Cedar Catholic, Laurel-Concord, Neligh-Oakdale, Osmond, Plainview, Ponca, Randolph, and Wakefield.
