Pirate Golfers Win Districts
The Plainview golf team traveled to the Fair Play golf course in Norfolk on Monday, May 14th for Class C-3 district. With Mitchell Klooz shooting a school record 65 for 18 holes to claim medallist honors, the team claimed the team championship to qualify for state on May 22nd and May 23rd. The team shot an almost unheard of score outside of Class A schools of 298. This team score is also a new school record breaking the old record of 310 set in 2012.
Mitchell Klooz shot 34 on the front and then shot a school record 31 on the back. Sam Meuret was the silver medallist by shooting 35 on both the front and the back for 70. Riley Meuret opened with a 39 on the front but shot 35 on the back to tie for 3rd but lost the scorecard play-off to earn the 4th place medal. Just as important in the team race and record setting was both Corby Forbes and Colin Wright each shooting 89 for the day. Forbes set the pace with 44 on the front and 45 on the back. Wright played the back first with 46 and then fired a 43 on the front.
If the team can continue to maintain their play, they should contend for state honors next week.
